Most of the people smart enough to figure out half of what I know are smart enough to keep their mouth shut about what they figured out. They're smart enough to know they'll be be considered dangerous if they spill their guts. Who will consider them dangerous? The ones who haven't figured it out, and they outnumber us a hundred to one...at least. They're in charge. Let me correct that. They are the vast majority. The weight of numbers gives them the power. But the people actually in charge are the ones who've figured out half of what I know and are keeping their mouth shut about what they know.
The game is about sheep and shepherds. If you want to play you have to choose sides. Those too stupid to figure out the truth are the sheep. The ones who have figured out half of the truth are the shepherds. The shepherds believe ignorance among the sheep is bliss and keeping the sheep happy is the point of organized living, so it's the responsibility of the shepherds to play dumb so the sheep never guess the truth.
But let's not be sheepish about the truth. Let me just spit out the half of it the shepherds know. After all, there's nothing secret about the truth, so there's no need to hide it. In a way, it's like gravity was before Isaac Newton gave it a name. We all knew it was there. No one could deny it. We just couldn't find the words for it before Sir Newton described it.
Here's a truth right in front of your face; LAW can be defined by how much freedom it confiscates. The function of all law is to restrict the activity of individual human beings. It is the nemesis of any free people. It is the oppressive master of those it is intended to serve. Those living under law are slaves to the institution from which the law draws its power. The more law in a society the less free the people in that society are by the very definition of law, itself.
Yet, while Americans stack law upon law, congressional session after congressional session, and while law becomes so cumbersome and thick in number and complexity it cannot even be enforced, Americans continue to think of themselves as a free people and even boast their freedom before a world of nations with only a fraction of the laws which restrict American's. The shepherds who know half the truth understand this. They must chuckle in private as they watch the sheep wave their flag into battles intended to bring freedom to people who suffocate beneath far less law than the liberating Americans who've sanctimoniously come to save them.
The shepherds understand. The sheep have been confused by the notion that freedom is measured by how many people are elected to create law. But the truth is that freedom is measured by how much law restricts the movement and activity of citizens -- a clear reality the mindless sheep are encouraged to ignore by confusing propaganda designed to keep them powerless.
